What are some of the reasons video games were successful? What makes a game popular? There are few reasons why video games were successful and what makes them popular. I would say the reasons would be the play style of the game, the story of the game, the graphics of the game, and more. If the community likes the game and spreads some love about it, as they hear more things going on about that certain game, then more and more people would try the game and it would make it popular.
